The loop is a thought provoking book by Jacob Ward. It gives a realistic take on how Artificial Intelligence is affecting our ability to make choices and how this impacts the ways in which we outsource decision making, mostly without being aware that we are doing so.
Personally, I am someone who is pro technology in my life and truly beleive that tech can solve more issues than it creates. However the key message is the scale in which we get influenced subconsciously and how easy it is, to be in the loop without realizing that we are in one.
So how do we know the influence of 'the loop' in our lives?. The answer to this is asking for the diversity of sources from which we get and consume the information that we use on a daily basis. Since one of the key goals of 'the loop' is to keep stoking the dopamine center, it invariably leads people down a path that lacks contradictory opinions and reinforces our current thinking.
This book was an antidote to many other books which have helped me understand and appreciate (which I still do) Artificial Intelligence and its benefits. Asking ourselves whats on our playlist? how did the songs/books/news get to our attention and how it is impacting us and are thinking are important questions to ask and reflect upon.
